Tadoba National Park is a popular tiger reserve, which is also known as ‘The Land of Tigers’ because of a fairly large tiger population (approximately 50). The most famous animal and the reason why most tourist visit Tadoba National Park is the majestic Royal Bengal Tigers.
Apart from the species of Bengal Tiger, this park is home to mammals like Sloth Bear, Leopard, Rusty Spotted Cat, Gaur (Indian Bison), Indian Mouse Deer, Ratel, Sambar, Wild Pig, Spotted Deer, Flying Squirrel, Four Horned Antelope etc.
Numerous reptiles like marsh crocodile are found near the lake inside the Tadoba Tiger Reserve. Other reptiles found in the park are Indian star tortoise, Russel’s viper, Indian monitor, terrapins and others. The lake is also home to numerous water birds and a few raptors.
Another beauty of the park is the wildlife that you would find once the sun has set. As soon as the night falls, the Small Indian Civet, the Palm Civet, the Ratel, and the Flying squirrel make their presence felt. In fact, there are more than 195 species of birds found here including three highly endangered species. Top raptors found in the park are crested serpent eagle, grey-headed fish eagle, changeable hawk eagle and others. Some of the common bird species to spot are paradise flycatcher, black naped blue flycatcher, stone curle, Indian pitta, warblers, peacock and others.
You will find more than 74 species of butterflies in this park including Mormons, pansies, swordtails and monarchs. You will also find many endangered insect species like great eggfly, danaid egg fly and other.
Not only will you find animals, birds and reptiles, but also common insects like stick insects, praying mantis, dragonflies and others. Hunting spiders like lynx spiders, wolf spiders and crab spiders are common here.
