About Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore National Park or Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary is a national park in northern India, covering 392 square km. Its about 140 km or 90 miles southeast of Jaipur, which is also the nearest airport. Ranthambore National Park terrain is a major wildlife tourist attraction spot that has pulled the attention of many tourists in this destination. 

The park is famous for its tigers and Ranthambore tiger safari. In fact, it is one of the best locations in India to see the majestic predators in its natural habitat. 

Best Time to Visit Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore National Park remains open from the months of October to June. The winter months, which is from October to December, are the best time to visit this place. Summers are quite hot. However, the chances of spotting tigers increase in the summers. Because, in those times the tall grasses dry down and the visibility is clear. Not only that, the few water bodies which have not dried up attracts the tigers and other wildlife. So, if you have an experienced guide with you, he will take you to the spot where chances of spotting the animals are highest.

However, the park remains closed during monsoons due to heavy rainfall.

Wildlife in Ranthambore National Park

In fact, quite a few varieties of wild animals can be easily seen during Ranthambore National Park Safari. It is observed that there are more than 320 species of birds found in Ranthambore, which includes both resident and migratory. Besides, there are over 40 mammal species and more than 35 species of reptiles are found in Ranthambore National park.

It is typically famous for the tigers. Other animals which you can spot during your Ranthambore Jungle safari are leopards, jungle cat, caracal, sambar deer, cheetal deer, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear etc.

Places to Visit Near Ranthambore National Park

Jaipur: Jaipur is one of the destinations of the famous Golden Triangle route of India. The City, which is also known as the Pink City, is a great place to experience the rich culture and heritage of India. Some famous places to visit here are Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal, Jantar Mantar, City. 

Agra: Agra has long been renowned as the city of the Taj Mahal, which needs no introduction. Other places to see are Agra Fort , Mehtab Bagh, Itmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb, Fatehpur Sikri. It is about 255 kms or 160 Miles and takes 7 – 8 hours.

Keolodeo Ghana National Park: This is the largest and most famous bird sanctuary in India. You would find both local and migratory birds flocking the national park in thousands, especially during September to March. If you are a lover of birds, then this place is a must-visit for you. It is about 150 kms or 100 Miles and takes 4 – 5 hours.
