How to Reach Bandhavgarh National Park

The nearest airport for Bandhavgarh National Park are Jabalpur and Khajuraho. Jabalpur is about 200 Kms or 120 miles, which is about  5-6 hours drive. While,  the Khajuraho airport is about 250 Kms or 175 miles and takes about 6-7 hours Drive from Bandhavgarh.

One can get regular flights for Jabalpur and Khajuraho from all major airports of India.

Best Time to Visit Bandhavgarh National Park

Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is open from October to June. So, one can visit the park anytime during that time. The weather for the safaris is best in winters, from November to January. While the best time to spot a tiger is around April and May, which is summer. Since the tall grasses dry down during the summer and so do most of the water bodies, it is easy to guess where the animals would come and easy to spot them too!

The park is closed during the monsoon season in the months of July, August, and September.

Wildlife in Bandhavgarh National Park

One of the most famous animals in Bandhavgarh National Park India is the tiger. Here travelers can witness its various varieties including the white tiger. 

Moreover, there are more than 22 species of mammals and more than 250 species of birds.

Bandhavgarh National Park Safari is generally carried out early in the morning until 10 am. And then again from 4 pm until dusk. Some of the most famous animals in the Bandhavgarh National Park include carnivores like Asiatic Jackal, Bengal Fox, Sloth Bear, Ratel, Gray Mongoose, Striped Hyena, Jungle Cat, Leopard, and Tiger. Birds include crane, black kite, crested serpent eagle, black vulture, Egyptian vulture, common peafowl, red jungle fowl, dove, parakeet, Indian roller can also be found in abundance.

In total, there are 4 safari zones in Bandhavgarh Tiger reserve and out of these Tala and Magadhi have the highest concentration of animals. Thus, you can hire a shared jeep to explore the zones. Typically, you cover one zone in one of the safaris. Also, it is not necessary that you cover all the zones. It may so happen that during your trip, there are more animals sighting in one zone compared to another. 

Places to Visit near Bandhavgarh National Park

Kanha National Park: It is about 215 km or 135 miles and takes about 6 – 7 hours. These two National Parks are mostly done in the same trip. Its a great combo! You would find plenty of wild animals here too. Typically, tourists spend a couple of nights in each of the National Parks.

Panna National Park: It is another wildlife park famous for tigers, though a bit far. You can club this too due to its proximity. It is about 315 kmsor 195 miles and takes approx 9 to 10 hours.

Khajuraho: Khajuraho is the land of the Kamasutras, which is famous for erotic sculptures and Hindu and Jain Temples. It is one of the best cultural destinations in India, which  is also a prominent UNESCO World Heritage Site. Khajuraho is about 370 kms or 230 miles approx and takes 10 to 11 hours. 

Jabalpur: It is renowned for the misty Dhuandhar Falls and Madan Mahal Fort. It is about 165 kms/ 100 miles and takes about 5 to 6 hours.
