About Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park is one of the most famous wildlife tours India. Known for Rhinos, this Forest in India is home to world’s 2/3rd population of one-horned Rhinos. Needless to say, here they are the main attraction. Almost 2200 one-horned rhinos roam around the national park area. Of course, there are also other exquisite breed of wildlife. The Kaziranga National Park thrives on the banks of river Brahmaputra. Thus, it flaunts meadows, grasslands, swampy lagoons, and dense forests, thereby housing a myriad of wildlife and floral species.

The nearest airport is in Guwahati. It is around 200 Km or 140 miles, which would take around 5 to 6 hours.

Best Time to Visit Kaziranga National Park

The best season to enjoy Kaziranga is between November and April. During the winters, which is from November to February, the weather is pleasant. So, you can enjoy your Wildlife safari. However, the chances of spotting any wildlife is in the hot seasons, which may be March and April. During this time the vegetation dries and visibility is better.

Kaziranga National Park Wildlife

Kaziranga National Park is  home to the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceros. It also shelters the highest density of tigers in the world. So, it became a Tiger Reserve in the year 2006. The park is inhabited by major populations including 35 species of mammals. Out of these 15 are considered as endangered species by the IUCN Red List.

You will find abundance of elephant, wild Asiatic water buffalo and swamp deer here. The tropical and dry deciduous forest of the National Park also shelters Gaur and Sambar. Fishing Cat, Leopards, Jungle Cat, small Indian Mongoose, Gray Mongoose also live here. Not to mention, Hispid Hare, Golden Jackal, Bengal Fox, Sloth Bear, Civets, Chinese Pangolin, Indian Pangolins. Moreover, Kaziranga National Park is also known for the wide variety of birds. There are 479 species of migratory and resident birds, out of which 25 are globally and 21 are locally threatened species. 

Besides, the park is also a refuge to 42 species of reptiles, which includes the about to extinct species like Assam roofed turtle and gharial. You might also see the endangered Ganges Dolphins, which are sheltered in the floodplain of River Brahmaputra.
