About Madhumalai National Park

The Mudumalai National Park or Wildlife Sanctuary is in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in India. The sanctuary is divided into 5 ranges – Masinagudi, Thepakadu, Mudumalai, Kargudi and Nellakota. While, to the north is Bandipur National Park and Nagarhole National Park, to the west is the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. These parks, sanctuaries and the adjoining Reserve forests cover over 3,300 sq kms of forest supporting a population of 1800–2300 elephants.

In fact, Bandipur National Park along with Mudumalai National Park, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and Nagarhole National Park has the highest tiger population in the country. One of the best way to reach Mudumalai National Park is to start from Bangalore, then proceed to Bandipur National Park via Mysore. Once you are in Bandipur National Park, you can spend a couple of nights before you reach Mudumalai National Park.

Best Time to Visit Madhumalai National Park

The best time to visit the park is from February to June. During this season, animals come to watering holes and lakes to quench their thirst. Spotting animals near water sources become easier.

Not only animals, the bird population is highest during this season due to migration. The vegetation sheds its leaves and will be completely covered with flowers. This is the best season for photography. Because of the monsoons, June to August may not be the best season to visit.
