Munnar Tea Plantation

Tea plantations in Munnar are situated on undulating terrain, which appears as a thick carpet of green colour. Terraced plantations are also prevalent to prevent soil erosion and to facilitate irrigation. In fact, the tea gardens have become the reasons for Munnar’s international fame. Tata Tea recently established a tea museum in the area, which provides an excellent insight into the process that is involved behind every delicious sip of tea. Sevenmallay Tea Estate: Sevenmallay Tea Estate, which was established in 1900, is owned by the Tata Tea Company. The estate spans over hundreds of acres of land. 

Pallivasal Tea Garden: Pallivasal Tea Garden, which is situated a few kilometers away, on the outskirts of Munnar, is known for its beautiful meadows of tea plantations. If  want to see the misty Sahya mountain range, then this is the place to be in.

Kolukkumalai Tea Estate: Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, which is located Located 35 km off Munnar, is perched at an altitude of 8000 ft. above sea levels. In fact, it is one of the highest in the world and is famous for its flavoured tea. If you plan to visit here, you need to hire a jeep, which takes about an hour to reach here by jeep from Munnar.

Apart from the above Tea Plantations, there are some other places to Visit in Munnar:

Pothamedu: It is a refreshing environment, where you can trek up to. One can witness the spectacular wide views of tea, coffee and cardamom plantations of the area. 

Echo Point: This place is famous for the echo phenomenon. Situated along the banks of the picturesque Kundala Lake, misty clouds, hills, lush green meadows and forests, surround the Echo Point, which make a visit to this scenic place even more exhilarating.

Tata Tea Museum or Kannan Devan Tea Museum: In fact, the Tata group, which has established a tea museum in Munnar so that tourists can get an insight into the tea  process. So, if you are interested to find out how the tea leaves from the gardens are processed step-by-step, this is a must see place for you. 

Mattupetty Dam: The main attraction of Mattupetty is the dam and the lake here. One of the best experiences is the boating on this lake. Typically during sunset in the evening, the boating experience is very relaxing here.

Attukad Waterfall: It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Munnar, ideal for trekking and picnics. Thick jungle and lush green terrains, surround the waterfall, which is reachable only through wooden bridge.

Best Time to Visit Munnar

While September to March is the best time to visit Munnar, summers, which is from March to June, are a little warm. However, you can still visit Munnar during this season. Monsoon season (July and August) experiences heavy rainfall. So it could hamper your travel plans if you plan to visit Kerala during the monsoons.
