The Different Road Trips

If you are visiting Rajasthan, including the Taj Mahal, the best way to explore the places is by road. First things first, the roads are in very good condition in general and hence travel should not be difficult. So, if you have a large distance to cover (by Indian standards) it should not be a problem. that is, covering even 300 Km or 200 miles in a day should not be a problem. Though, it is advisable to check the exact road condition before the long drives to ensure they are not under temporary repair.

If you take Delhi as a starting point, you can go to Agra first. Then to Jaipur. Driving further you can visit Udaipur via Chittorgarh Fort. After that you can visit Jodhpur via Kumbhalgarh Fort. Then to Jaisalmer…then Bikaner, Mandawa, until you are back in jaipur.

Obviously this is one large route…you can skip a few cities. For example, from Jaipur you can go to Jodhpur directly, without having to touch Udaipur and so on, depending on your time and places that interests you.

Things you can expect

And there was a thrill in the air, of a new adventure, the excitement of this not so regular road trip, and the prospect of experiencing the different cities of the timeless “Land of Maharajas”, Rajasthan.

Also, the Rajasthan trip is an amalgamation of history, culture, wildlife and the vibrant spirit of the people of Rajasthan. The different colors of the cities (pink, blue, golden etc), Thar Desert, the yummilicious food, colorful clothes, the historical palaces and forts, the peaceful shrines (Dargah at Ajmer, Osiyan Temple, Ranakpur Temple), the sleepy towns, rural villages, ghost stories (Bhangarh Fort) all these make a road trip the ideal way to cover this beautiful state of India.

#1:Delhi → Agra → Jaipur (Approx Distance 500 Km/400 miles)

This is the famous Golden Triangle Route. Start from Delhi and then proceed towards Agra, which is about 250 Km or 175 miles. It is better to have at least a night halt in Agra. Thus, you can see the Taj Mahal the next morning before proceeding towards Jaipur, which is another 250 km or so.

Both Agra and Jaipur needs no introduction on what you can see in those palaces. In short, you get to see the Taj Mahal (obviously!) and then other Forts and Palaces in Jaipur.
