Jaisalmer Fort

Jaisalmer Fort is believed to be one of the very few “living forts” in the world, which is to say people still live inside the fort. In fact, for the better part of its 800-year history, the fort was the city of Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer Fort, which was built in 1156 AD by the Rajput Rawal Jaisal, is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan. The fort is made up of yellow sandstone, for which it is also known as the Golden Fortress. When you are in Jaisalmer, try to be around during sunset. As you would have guessed it, the fort turns golden, which is a sight to behold. In 2013 the Jaisalmer Fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Take a tour inside the fort…As you would walk past the shops and markets, watch out for the pottery made of “golden clay”. Surely, it can be a good collection.
