About Us

Our Story

Planning a trip in India can be confusing. Online information—especially in the age of reels—is often misleading, and expectations get exaggerated. Even travel guides can sometimes feel overwhelming and contradictory.

INDIA Trotter was founded in 2014 to address this gap.

We pride ourselves on offering honest guidance and realistic planning, and then delivering journeys exactly as promised—well-curated, authentic, and safe.

  • We would rather be upfront than sugar-coat realities just to secure a booking.
  • We would rather focus on creating a memorable experience than cut corners or compromise on service.
  • We would rather design a journey around what you genuinely want to experience than randomly stitch together an itinerary to make it “look like a trip.”

When you book with us, you don’t just get what we promise—you often get more: calmer planning, better on-ground coordination, and the confidence of knowing you are in reliable hands.

Curating Your Personalized Journey

Our process is designed to feel effortless for the guest—and precise behind the scenes:

  • Discovery first: We understand travel style, pace, interests, and comfort preferences.
  • Curated route design: We build an itinerary that balances heritage, experiences, and downtime—without overstuffing the schedule.
  • Partner selection: Hotels, guides, drivers, and experiences are curated for consistency and reliability, not just availability.
  • Pre-trip clarity: Guests receive a clear, practical plan—what to expect each day, and how the journey flows.
  • On-trip support: Our team stays engaged during travel, ensuring smooth coordination and quick resolution if anything shifts.

The goal is simple: guests should feel looked after, while still feeling free.

Meet the team

Amitav, Founder and CEO

INDIA Trotter was founded by Amitava Chatterjee, an MBA graduate from the UK’s Cranfield School of Management, with a professional background across leading IT companies, including strong>Oracle, IBM, and TCS.

Since childhood, Amitav has been travelling across India. So, it is no wonder that in later years, he was
the go-to person when his MBA friends, overseas colleagues, and international clients planned trips to India.
As he helped more visitors, he noticed a common problem: planning was often confusing, online information
was misleading, and booking the different pieces and coordinating them was never easy.

In 2017, he started INDIA Trotter with a simple belief: India should be experienced with honest guidance, thoughtful planning, and reliable execution.

Today, Amitava continues to shape journeys the same way—by listening closely, curating carefully, and ensuring every guest feels confident, comfortable, and well looked after.

A Women-Only Team, Working from Home

At INDIA Trotter, we believe in gender equality and in creating real opportunities for women. Our operations are run by an all-women team — many of whom are homemakers — who work from home and bring exceptional focus to hospitality, organisation, and guest care.
Their discipline, attention to detail, and empathy show in the quality of our planning, coordination, and on-trip support—so every guest feels confident, comfortable, and well looked after.

How Our Gifts Support Local Communities

When you travel with us, we present small gifts that are truly local—handmade crafts and pieces of regional art. It could be a silk scarf in Varanasi, stone-crafted artefacts in Ajanta–Ellora, puppets in Jaipur, or a traditional spice box in Kerala. We source these from NGOs, women’s collectives, and artisan communities—so you take home a genuine piece of India, while each purchase directly supports local livelihoods.

We also include village walks and community-led experiences that let guests meet local makers and discover the real stories behind India’s crafts and culture. This could be a village experience around Amritsar, a community-led interaction in rural Jodhpur, or a village visit in Kerala—bringing you closer to quieter, unexplored parts of India.

Beyond this, a small fraction of every tour is contributed to a few orphanage centres across India—our quiet way of ensuring travel creates not only memories for our guests, but also meaningful support for communities that need it.
