In your Taj Mahal Tour, Visit Red Fort Agra...and a lot more!

The Taj Mahal

Any visit to India is incomplete without The Taj Mahal Tour. The Delhi Agra route is the most commonly used route for the Taj Mahal Tour.

The first thing you would notice in your Taj Mahal visit is the ivory-white marble mausoleum on the southern bank of the river Yamuna in India Agra. In fact, it houses the tomb of Nur Jahan, wife of Shah Jahan and Shah Jahan himself. As you would find in your Taj Mahal visit, the tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare (42-acre) complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house.

Ustad Ahmad Lahaur, is the chief architect of the project. However, there was also a board of architects who oversaw the project. Additionally, more than 20,000 artisans worked on building this spectacular beauty…the epitome of romance.
The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. It is undoubtedly the best example of Mughal architecture and a symbol of India’s rich history. More than 7–8 million tourists take the Taj Mahal Tour each year.

Best time to visit this place is early morning. At that time, the crowd is less…so you can enjoy the serenity of the place…there will be none to photobomb!

Agra Fort

Agra Fort or the Red Fort Agra is a historical fort in the city of Agra in India. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. In 1983, the Agra fort was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.It is about 2.5 km northwest of its more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal. The fort can be more accurately described as a walled city.

The Fort stands on an ancient site and was traditionally known as Badalgarh. The Fort got its present appearance during the reign of Akbar (A.D. 1556–1605). It is made of Red Sandstone and hence the name Red Fort Agra.

Mehtab Bagh

Another place from which your Taj Mahal visit can be memorable is the Mehtab Bagh, “bagh” meaning garden. It lies north of the Taj Mahal complex and the Agra Fort. But the beauty of Mehtab Bagh lies in its strategic location opposite to the Taj Mahal of India Agra. It is located just on the opposite side of the Yamuna River. This provides the perfect view of the Taj Mahal.

Especially, if you are around in the evening, then you can see the Taj Mahal turn crimson red. If you have time, return to the Mehtab Bagh during the late evening for a glimpse of the Taj Mahal at night to make your Taj Mahal Tour memorable. In fact, the Taj Mahal Visit can be incomplete without the spectacular views from Mehtab Bagh.

Itmad-ud-Daulah's Tomb

Tomb of I’timād-ud-Daulah is another Mughal mausoleum in India Agra. It is also known as the Baby Taj Mahal. Along with the main building, the structure consists of numerous outbuildings and gardens.

The tomb, which was built between 1622 and 1628, represents a transition between the two phases of monumental Mughal architecture.  The red sandstone (recollect, Agra Fort is also known as the Red Fort Agra) from the first phase to its second phase, based on white marble (something that is evident in any Taj Mahal Visit).

Akbar's Tomb

Akbar’s tomb is the tomb of the great Mughal emperor Akbar. This tomb is an important Mughal architectural masterpiece. It was built in 1605–1613 by his son Jahangir and is situated in 119 acres of grounds in Sikandra in India Agra.
