Golden Triangle India. What is it? Does it include Agra and Jaipur Only?

What is so special about Golden Triangle?

The three cities take you back in time to the reigns of Mughal and the Maharajas in the 16th and 17th century. The cities, though modern in every sense and amenities have a lot to offer in terms of marvelous work and architecture of the forts, palaces, museums, and monuments. Starting from the epitome of love, Agra’s Taj Mahal to the work of art in Jaipur’s Amer Fort and Hawa Mahal to Delhi’s Red Fort and Qutub Minar each day you will be mesmerized by the architectural wonder. And you will find the same 17th-century essence in the cuisines and local markets in these cities. It is an experience that is never to be missed when you are in India.

What can be a typical itinerary?

As mentioned earlier the Golden Triangle comprises of 3 cities – Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Both Delhi and Jaipur have international airports and good connectivity with the major cities in India. So, you may choose to fly either into Delhi and fly out from Jaipur or vice-versa.

The duration of the tour very much depends on how much time you have in your hand and what interests you. A night in Delhi and Agra each and about 2 nights in Jaipur can be an optimum plan. Should you have less time, you can spend just a night in Jaipur and skip Delhi altogether. Should you have more time, you can spend another extra night in Agra and Delhi each as also visit other nearby places like Ranthambore National Park (a couple of nights) or continue your tour to Rajasthan (Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer etc)

What is there to see in Golden Triangle?

Well, there are lots to see during your visit to the Golden Triangle.

In Delhi you can visit the Red Fort and Qutub Minar in Delhi before heading towards Agra. If you have time you can also visit the Lotus TempleJama Masjid and the colourful Chandni Chowk market.

In Agra, beside the gorgeous Taj Mahal. you might want to visit the magnificent Agra Fort, watch the Taj Mahal during the sunrise and sunset from the opposite Mehtab Bagh (garden) as well as visit Fatehpur Sikri. It may be mentioned that you need to set aside about 3-4 hours for the Fatehpur Sikri during your trip from Agra to Jaipur. Not only is there a small detour, but also due to the magnificient structure you would need about 1 – 2 hours going around the place.

Jaipur is a very colourful city. The city has a lot of historical forts, palaces, museums and monuments. Amer Fort, perched on a hill, is the most famous fort. Others include Hawa Mahal (a five storey architectural marvel built with red and pink sandstone), Jal Mahal (a palace in the middle of Man Sagar Lake), Jantar Mantar(an observatory that consists of fourteen geometric devices that measure time, predict eclipses, track the location of stars and the Earth’s movement around the sun.), Nahargarh Fort (Located on the rocky ridge of Aravalli Hills). Don’t miss an evening in Chokhi Dhani (an artificial rural Indian village, more like a village resort). And if you have time, spend a half a day at the Elephantastic where you get to play and have fun with elephants. Kids love it.

When can I visit the Golden Triangle?

You can visit Golden Triangle all throughout the year. September to March are the best times when the temperature is very pleasant, in fact, chill in December-January time. In summer and monsoon there is less crowd.

Is there any other place I can visit during my Golden Triangle Tour?

There are quite a few interesting places you can club with the Golden Triangle, like the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve (200km/125 miles from Jaipur), the Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary (which hosts thousands of migratory birds in winter and lies on the Agra-Jaipur route) or extend your vacation to see the Rajasthan – UdaipurMt. AbuJodhpurJaisalmer etc
