Day 2Varkala: Relaxing around the Beach

Today you can relax around Varkala Beach, which is along the Arabian Sea, is known for the the steep cliff overseeing the gorgeous Arabian Sea. In fact, because of his cliff, the view of the sunset is so stunningly beautiful. The golden clean sands of Varkala Beach offer the perfect condition for evening walks along the beach.

Apart from the beach, Varkala has a towering lighthouse. Once you climb atop the Varkala Lighthouse, you will get bowled over by the stunning panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and Kerala’s stunning landscape, which is dotted with coconut grooves. No doubt, the lighthouse adds beauty to the already picturesque Varkala beach.

In the afternoon you can also visit Kappil Beach and Kappil Lake.

Kapil Beach is about 7 kms north of Varkala. It is a beach – backwater destination. It is a must visit place, especially if you are spending time at Varkala beach. With an ideal blend of the backwaters and sea, it offers an idyllic escape from the world. The Kodi Hills nearby offers a breathtaking view. A drive along the coastal road is also a great experience.

Not far from Varkala and near the Kapil Beach is the Kapil Lake. This tranquil lake provides a perfect escape to a quiet place amidst nature. You can relax and enjoy boating on this placid lake. Since not many people are aware of this place, it provides the tranquility.

Day 3Day Trip to Kovalam Beach and Kanyakumari

Though Kovalam Beach is in Trivandrum, it is one of the beaches that you should visit when you are in Varkala. The Kovalam Beach is around 50 Km or 30 miles from Varkala, which takes about 2 hours one way. Thus, you can take a Day Trip to Kovalam. Kovalam Beach, like Varkala Beach is known for the golden sands and a lighthouse on one end. There are lots of shacks and restaurants on the Kovalam Beach, where you can relax.

If you want, you can proceed further down to Kanyakumari. Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of the Indian Peninsula. You can see the following things in Kanyakumari.

The most famous place to See in Kanyakumari is the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. It was built in 1970 in honour of Swami Vivekananda, who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock. A meditation hall known as Dhyana Mandapam, where you can meditate. In fact. the memorial consists of two main structures, the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam. If you have spiritual inclination, then you can visit this place. Even an avid traveler loves Kanyakumari because of the fact that it is the southernmost tip of the Indian Peninsula. So, you can see the Arabian Sea to the right, Indian Ocean to the left and Bay of Bengal to the left from here.
